Golden Collie

Golden Retriever X Border Collie

History

Temperament
Golden Collies are one of the most friendly and playful dogs you could ever meet. They’re loving dogs that want to be a part of everything you do so they can feel like they’re an important member of the family.
You’ll often get your Gollie to curl up beside you for a movie, but they’ll spend just as much time rambunctiously running around the backyard since they have nearly-limitless energy to expend.
These dogs love to please. They want to do whatever will make their people happy. This makes them easy to train and a pleasure to keep around.

Upkeep
Golden Collies are high-energy dogs. They’re extremely active and they need a lot of physical activity to release all that energy.
You can expect to spend at least one hour each day providing physical activity for your Golden Collie. This can be in the form of brisk walks, jogs, playtime, agility training, or whatever activity suits you.
Golden Collies are great activity partners. Instead of blocking out time for dog exercise, you can just bring your Gollie along when you exercise. These dogs are perfect for anyone who loves to jog, hike, run, or even bike. Take your Golden Collie along and you can both get in all the exercise you need at the same time while improving and strengthening your bond.
Golden Collies are relatively high-maintenance when it comes to grooming. They have long, luscious coats that shed. That thick fur will pile up all over your home in short order. To prevent this, you’ll need to brush your Golden Collie every day. This will help prevent matting, reduce shedding, remove dead hair, and even help clear dirt from your dog’s coat.

What should I consider when purchasing a cross-breed?

It is important to remember that a crossbreed is not as predictable as a purebred dog. You don’t know which characteristics it will inherit from each of its parents. In the case of the Golden Collie, it’s important to consider the activity and drive of the collie versus the retriever among other personality traits.

There have been an increasing number of health concerns about crossbreeds, not least because too many irresponsible breeders are cashing in on the crossbreed craze and selling the myth that crossbreeds are automatically healthier, so they don’t need to health test their dogs. This is not true. Whilst crossbreeds have a wider gene pool than pedigree dogs, any dog can become ill and it is important that you buy from a responsible breeder. If you buy a crossbreed you should check the health test results for both of the parents in the same way as you should for a pedigree dog.
